Arsenal vs Southampton (Capital One Cup, 23.09.2014)

The third round of the Capital One Cup sees Arsenal hosting Southampton in a match were the Gunners are the obvious favorites and are expected to progress further without reaching the penalty shootouts. Ronald Koeman wants the best for his players in this match, but still advises them to stay grounded and not start the match with an above everyone mentality.

Strangely enough, Southampton are on the second place in the table, one point above Arsenal, and with a better goal difference. Many doomed the team done after their brightest stars Lallana and Shaw were transferred this summer, but Koeman managed to glue them back together and offer them depth in the defense. The visitors come from a 0-1 win over Swansea City, and they can brag with Graziano Pelle in great form after scoring three goals in Premier League. Two of their players have picked up knocks during the latest match, but it is yet unclear whether they can start against the Gunners.
Arsenal have not won the competition under Arsene Wenger, yet have always made it past the third round.. They come after an inspiring 3-0 win at Villa Park where Danny Welbeck opened his scoring tally for his new team. Over the years Capital one Cup has been Arsene Wenger’s territory to test new players and blend them into the team, but considering his list of injured players, perhaps he will be ready not to make too many changes.

Considering Arsenal will most likely start with the so-called second team, Southampton expect to at least draw at the end of regular time at 3.40 with William Hill. An outright Southampton win is at 4.33 and both teams to score is at 1.65. Over 3.5 goals per match is at 2.75, Arsenal with a -1 Handicap at 2.70, Southampton with a +1 at 2.10 and Arsenal for both halves is at 2.50. We are going to bet 7 units on Arsenal scoring in both halves at 2.50 with William Hill.
