Ajax Amsterdam vs AZ Alkmaar (Eredivisie, 05.02.2015)

Ajax Amsterdam offered a free lesson in how to lose your title chances without even trying in the match against Vitesse where they lost with 1-0. Tomorrow they meet AZ Alkmaar in another round of Eredivisie that Ajax must win in order to keep the Champions League place behind them.

Durdevic scored Vitesse’s only goal and Frank De Boer stated that his team should forget about the title for the moment and learn how to ply with a sparkle again. This defeat has Ajax Amsterdam nine points behind PSV and five in front of Feyenoord, and it was against a team that were coming from four consecutive losses in Eredivisie. Klaasen was even more categorical than his teammates and stated in a post-match interview: “I really thought today we played as amateurs. More I cannot do.” Sigthorsson, Veltman and Fischer are tipped to miss the match in Amsterdam Arena where Ajax keep an unbeaten run of nine matches in Eredivisie. The hosts are bound to see their reigning in Eredivise come to an end if they don’t gather their forces and fight back against their lackluster performance.
AZ Alkmaar are currently on the fifth place in Eredivisie, eight points behind Ajax and come from a 3-1 win over Heracles. Gudelj is their main goalscorer with 8 successes so far and Johansson is the one to score the first goal in their most recent win. Celso Ortiz is absent due to injury and is supposed to miss up to six weeks due to a broken arm which could see Elm get his starting spot. AZ Alkmaar are winless against Ajax since 2013 and last year they met three times in all competitions, which tomorrow’s hosts won with 8-1 on aggregate.

Among the most popular betting markets is of course Ajax to win outright with 1.52 odds and AZ Alkmaar with 5.60. If you look for somewhat higher odds you could bet on a draw with 4.25 odds from 888sport. We are going to bet 7 units on Milik to score anytime with 2.23 odds because he is the most productive striker Ajax can depend on. Over 2.5 goals has 1.52 odds, Ajax for both halves 2.28 odds, AZ Alkmaar 8.50 and the hosts with a -1.5 handicap have 2.48 odds.
