Manchester City vs Sunderland [Prediction, March 2]

February 28, 2014 0 Betting, Predictions, Soccer

Manchester City is set to win their first trophy of the season as they meet Sunderland in the League Cup final. The Citizens are the favorites to win this match considering they need to get back in shape and they have up to five players who could be backed up for the goalscorer market. To bet on the potential Man City win we are going to use the odds from William Hill.

MANCHESTER-CITY-VS-SUNDERLAND-02-march-2014-prediction

Sunderland lost against Arsenal with a staggering 4-1, which prompted Gus Poyet to state that he is going to change the entire squad against Manchester City. Provided he is serious, changes are to be expected. This match would be the perfect opportunity for the debut of Sunderland’s newest signing. Giaccerini is poised to be the one player able to stun the Citizens, and his manner of play could be crucial for the outcome.

Manchester City has been in three League Cups so far and ended up winning two of them, each match ended with a 2-1 score. It is expected they will push towards complete dominance on the field, and to score an early goal. Toure, David Silva and Alvaro Negredo are the front runners in the goalscorer market. Even though Sunderland qualified to the final after defeating Chelsea London and Manchester United, there aren’t many people left who will doubt Man City’s supremacy. This being said we are going to bet 5 units on Manchester City to win to nil with 2.13 William Hill odd.

Everton vs West Ham United [Prediction, March 1]

February 27, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

Some teams should take a leaf out of West Ham United’s book on how to turn around an entire season after being deemed relegated. They managed to turn their luck around and registered four consecutive wins and a goalless draw against Chelsea. For this week’s fixture they travel to Everton to continue their unbeaten run for which we are going to use odds from William Hill.

Regardless of their mixed results, alternating between wins and losses, the bookmakers see Everton as the outright favorite to win this match. Their main attacking force was injured in the defeat to Liverpool and it was clear that without Lukaku the team’s form suffered a blow. For this particular match, the doctors have cleared the Belgian to play, and some of the odds point towards him as an anytime goalscorer for Everton. The team’s most recent loss against Chelsea was rather dramatic as the match itself was heading towards a well-deserved draw, until John Terry converted the penalty awarded to the Blues in the final minutes of the match.

EVERTON-VS-WEST-HAM-UNITED-01-match-2014-prediction

Meanwhile, West Ham enjoys a perfect record of matches in February despite being eliminated from all Cup games. The disaster which followed the team in the Capital One Cup semi-finals was easy to predict, yet The Citizens didn’t even allow West Ham a goal of honor and trashed them with an astounding 9-0 score. Kevin Nolan, Cole and Matt Jarvis were West Ham’s most recent goalscorers which puts them up front for the anytime goalscorer betting markets.

William Hill sees a potential Everton win at 1.46, a draw at 4.12, and a potential West Ham win at 7.02. Everton to win to nil stands at 2.20, while the same courtesy for West Ham is at 12.00; we are going to place 7 units on the total match goals number to be odd at 2.00.

Athletic Club vs Granada [Prediction, February 28]

February 27, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

La Liga starts this week with a match between the fourth-placed Athletic Club and the 13th-placed Granada, which also sports a negative goal average. Judging by their head to head record you may not anticipate a lot of goals, but a decent fight put up by the underdog. We decided to use the odds from Titan Bet for this prediction.

Everyone knows Bilbao is not going to make a bid for the third place on the table, but they will do their best to secure the fourth spot that will send them towards a potential Champions League bid. After two draws and a surprise loss to Espanyol Barcelona, Bilbao got their act together and won against Real Betis with a clean sheet. Muniain put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute after Bilbao was awarded a penalty for a dive inside the box by a Betis player. The hosts were left with nine men on the pitch and yet Bilbao’s second goal came in the 81 minute when Fernandez scored with a header.

ATHLETIC-CLUB-VS-GRANADA-28-february-2014-prediction

Granada sports five defeats in six matches, the most recent one against Valencia, in a match where they not only had the upper hand, but also scored first only to see themselves being equalized in the 64th minute. During the extra time Valencia scored their second goal after Roberto cleared a threat. What they are missing and need to work on are the aerial duels, as well as finishing passes, because Elche is just one point behind Granada and might want a shot at a higher La Liga table place.

Titan Bet has a potential Bilbao win at 1.44, and a draw goes for 4.33, while the probability of a Bilbao clean sheet is at 2.00. We are going to bet 6 units on the second half to be the one with the majority of goals at 2.05 with odds from the same bookie.

Zenit vs Borussia Dortmund [Champions League Recap, February 25th]

February 26, 2014 0 Betting, News, Soccer

We placed a bet with bet365 on Robert Lewandowski as an anytime goalscorer in Borussia Dortmund’s match against Zenit, and we won the bet as Lewandowski was cleared from the flu just mere moments before the match, even though he needed to be careful as he had a yellow card to worry about.

The visitors imposed Zenit a highly pressing game and in the 4th minute, Marco Reus made his way into Zenit’s box, passed it to Mkhitaryan who scored from a very close range. A minute after Dortmund’s goal, Zenit proves true to the saying that a team is most vulnerable after they concede a goal. Immediately after the restart, Grosskreutz lays the ball perfectly for Reus who makes it 0-2.

SBB-25-february-2014-img01

The second half saw a Zenit with a different set of mind and they even managed to score in the 57th minute through Shatov, and the goal came over Dortmund’s defense, exposing the weaknesses. Lewandowski created and converted the chance he got into a goal on the 61 minute when he picked up the ball from outside the box, combined it with Piszczek, and after that scored himself. The Polish striker has this uncanny ability to develop chances of goals from thin air and this is a trait that makes him special.

On the 69th minute Zenit was awarded a penalty after Piszczek fouled Fayzulin inside the box, and Hulk converted from the white spot after his team managed to miss three penalties in a row this season, yet they scored the most important one. The Russians didn’t learn from their mistakes, and allowed Lewandowski to complete his brace on the 71 minute when Reus assisted the Pole for a goal into the tight corner of Zenit’s post.

Dortmund’s made their intentions clear, despite their Bundesliga form, and Lewandowski went to exchange a few words with Tymoshchuk as the two know each other pretty well from Tymo’s days at Bayern.

Zenit vs Borussia Dortmund [Champions League Prediction, February 25th]

February 21, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

Borussia Dortmund returns to Champions League action by traveling to Russia this Tuesday to measure forces with Zenit, and last year’s finalist is the overall favorite to return home with the three points. Bet365 gives Dortmund odds of 1.72 to win, while an eventual upset by Zenit is priced up at 4.50.

Luciano Spaletti is confident that his side’s loss to Austria Wien was just an accident and will not hinder their performance in front of the Germans. Zenit finished second in Group G, only trailing behind Atletico Madrid. In their national Championship the team is at level of points with Lokomotiv Moskow, and don’t look too keen on leaving the first spot. Their main goalscorer in all European competitions is Aleksandr Kerzhakov with 28 goals, and the person to know the visitors best would be Bayern Munich’s ex-player Anatolyi Tymoshchuk, who will also register his 50th Champions League appearance.

ZENIT-VS-BORUSSIA-DORTMUND-25-february-2014-prediction

When Dortmund won against Werder Bremen, their joy was overshadowed by Sven Bender and Marco Reus’ injuries that kept on adding to the already decimated team. Recently, Jurgen Klopp gave great news to the fans by stating that Reus is poised to return for the first leg against Zenit, yet still refuses to see his team as overall favorites to win. The visitors have to be extra careful as Robert Lewandowski and Sven Bender are both one card away from suspension, which could turn out to be detrimental to their return leg against the Russians.

Nobody said the victory will be handed to Borussia Dortmund on a silver platter; they will have to work for it and prove why statistically they are the better team out of the two. The Germans also have a good record of clean sheets which with bet365 is accounted for at 3.25. We are going to bet 7 units on Robert Lewandowski as an anytime goalscorer with 2.25 odds.

Lille vs Olympique Lyonnais [Prediction, February 23]

February 21, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

This Sunday, Lille is set to meet Lyon, the former Ligue 1 champions, who are on the 6th place, with no European future as it stands now. We’ve chosen the odds from Ladbrokes for this match in which the hosts will attempt to get a stronger grip on their Champions League playoff place.

Lille went through the next round in Coupe de France, where they recorded a 3-3 draw against Caen that took them to penalties, and this qualification sent them to a March confrontation against Rennes. In Ligue 1 they managed to get a draw against Evian, perpetually threatened by relegation, but it could have been worse as the team was heading towards a surprise defeat until Ryan Mendes scored in the dying minutes of the match.

LILLE-VS-OLYMPIQUE-LYONNAIS-23-february-2014-prediction

On the other hand, Lyon is trying to bounce back from the defeat in Coupe de France against Lens, the team from the second tier of the French football. They do look on track to do that as on Sunday they won with 3-1 against Ajaccio, and have yet to play the first Europa League leg against Chernomorets Odessa. Lyon is also five points behind Lille, and level with Marseille, but with a slightly inferior goal average.

The last time the two teams met, the match ended in a goalless draw that again didn’t help either much, which this time around would also be the score to avoid. Another noteworthy fact would be that Lille didn’t lose at home against Lyon since 2008, and have managed to score at last two goals in their last three Ligue 1 matches.

Ladbrokes has 2.15 odds for a Lille win, 3.25 for a draw and a 3.40 for a Lyon win, while both teams to score is priced up at 1.80. We are going to bet 6 units on over 2.5 goals with odds from the same bookie.

Chelsea vs. Everton [Prediction, February 22]

February 21, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

Chelsea is one point ahead of their next competitors in the Premier League table, and for sure will be looking to extend that lead against Everton the 6th placed team with 45 points that went through the next stage of the FA Cup and chases after Tottenham for the Europa League ticket. For this particular match we’ve chosen odds from 888sport, even though Chelsea looks like the overall favorites.

Nobody can really say that Chelsea’s first place is not going to be challenged and future betting markets show that someone might produce an upset on Stamford Bridge, continuing the work West Bromwich started when they kept The Blues at bay to secure a 1-1 draw, even though they were leading after Ivanovic’s goal. Strangely enough they picked up 6 points against Newcastle, and the third placed Man City, but were thrown away from the FA Cup by the latter.

CHELSEA-VS-EVERTON-22-february-2014-prediction

Everton went through in the FA Cup after a 3-1 win over Swansea that saw them book the next round ticket to London where they will meet Arsenal. The good news came from the Everton’s medical team who confirmed that Steven Naismith will be able to recover just in time for the Chelsea trip.

In the first match of the season between the two teams, Everton won against Chelsea with 1-0, where the Blues gave up more chances then they had of scoring, a situation which is not to be repeated this time around. Considering Chelsea won four of their last six meetings, a bet on an outright Chelsea win is not so ludicrous at 1.52, while a draw is at 3.95. Both teams to score is at 1.98, but we are going to bet 6 units on Eden Hazard to score at any time with odds from 888sport.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Paris Saint Germain [Recap, February 18th]

February 19, 2014 0 Betting, News, Soccer

Paris Saint Germain showed through another stunning performance that they want a spot among the European elite as they trashed Bayer Leverkusen with 0-4, and all but booked a place in the next round. As a result, we won the bet placed on them to win with odds from Betfair.

The visitors were always the favorites among the bookies, as Leverkusen find themselves in terrible Bundesliga form having lost four of their last six matches. The hosts fielded a mainly defensive team, and whatever plan they had in mind it backfired as Matuidi gave PSG the lead after just three minutes of play. PSG didn’t even have to try hard to win this match, they excelled at both being more fit than Leverkusen, having more pressing and a superior ball possession.

SBB-19-february-2014-img01

It was already 3-0 before the second half even ended, as Ibrahimovic scored from the white spot on the 39th minute, to later complete the brace with an amazing long shot into the right corner of Leno’s post. Now he sums up 10 international goals and looking by the form of the team many more will come, regardless of the fact that many consider his arrogance sipped even in his way of scoring goals. Before Real Madrid gets to play next week, Zlatan Ibrahimovic finds himself before Cristiano Ronaldo on the Champions League goalscorer sheet.

To make matters even worse for Leverkusen, they were left with 10 men after Spahic received a second yellow card which transformed itself in red. The stadium was reduced to silence, Leverkusen looked down and Laurent Blanc’s master plan to confuse and destroy worked as Cabaye added to Leverkusen’s misery by scoring a fourth goal from Ibrahimovic’s pass.

There is no going back now for Bayer Leverkusen, not even Barcelona was able to come back from a four goal difference, and all they have left is to concentrate on the Bundesliga.

Sevilla vs Valencia [Recap, February 16th]

February 18, 2014 0 Betting, News, Soccer

No goals were scored in Sevilla vs. Valencia clash which we predicted Sevilla would win both halves with odds from Ladbrokes, and we lost, as not only there were no goals but both teams ended with only 10 players on the pitch.

And it’s not only the fact that they lost such a good opportunity to distance themselves from Valencia and shorten the distance between them and Villarreal, but also that for an entire half they had 11 men on the pitch as opposed to Valencia’s 10, and yet the dangerous team ended up being the visitors. Sevilla couldn’t control the ball for the majority of the time they had it and Alcacer and Vargas were the ones to give the troubles to Sevilla’s defense.
SBB-18-february-2014-img02
Unai Emery didn’t want to risk it and went with Fazio and Pareja as central defenders, while moving Carrico to the midfield. There weren’t clear opportunities to score yet Valencia had some long distance shots from Vargas and Feghouli that ended up probably in the same place as Sergio Ramos’ ball. In the second half there was a different story as Rakitic shot the ball right into Ricardo Costa’s hand, and even though it should have been a penalty it ended with a red card for Costa.

Sevilla had their red card in the dying minutes of the match and their last opportunity to score came when Bacca fired a shot that merely brushed past Diego Alves’ post.

Fiorentina vs Internazionale Milano [Recap, February 15th]

February 18, 2014 0 Betting, News, Soccer

Internazionale Milano wants in Europe. That would be the only thought one might have had after their stunning win against Fiorentina. As they won and we placed a bet with William Hill for Fiorentina to win, the bet was lost as Inter now sits on the 5th place, five points behind Fiorentina.

The visitors recorded their first Serie A away win in over three months, and are aiming even higher, word on the street is Inter Milano wants the last Champions league spot. With this thought in mind, Inter was in full attacking mood, and were rewarded with a goal on the 34th minute when Rodrigo Palacio fired his shot from a really close range.

SBB-18-february-2014-img01
Although being heavily overwhelmed, and dominated on the pitch Fiorentina was not letting their guard down, and pushed for the equalizer. The goal came barely a minute after the start of the second half, when Cuadrado capitalized on a mistake from Inter’s goalkeeper, Samir Handanovic. Internazioonale though never lost their footing and bounced back on the 65th minute when Icardi scored from a Nagatomo cross.

Fiorentina was without Giuseppe Rossi, and had another important player; Borja Valero was missing because of a suspension. On the bright side, Mario Gomez finally made his appearance for “Viola” after being kept off the field with an injury since September. Prior to this match Inter “managed” to lose five consecutive away matches, but does this win really mean they are finally on the right track?
