Manchester City vs Sunderland [Prediction, March 2]

February 28, 2014 0 Betting, Predictions, Soccer

Manchester City is set to win their first trophy of the season as they meet Sunderland in the League Cup final. The Citizens are the favorites to win this match considering they need to get back in shape and they have up to five players who could be backed up for the goalscorer market. To bet on the potential Man City win we are going to use the odds from William Hill.

Sunderland lost against Arsenal with a staggering 4-1, which prompted Gus Poyet to state that he is going to change the entire squad against Manchester City. Provided he is serious, changes are to be expected. This match would be the perfect opportunity for the debut of Sunderland’s newest signing. Giaccerini is poised to be the one player able to stun the Citizens, and his manner of play could be crucial for the outcome.

Manchester City has been in three League Cups so far and ended up winning two of them, each match ended with a 2-1 score. It is expected they will push towards complete dominance on the field, and to score an early goal. Toure, David Silva and Alvaro Negredo are the front runners in the goalscorer market. Even though Sunderland qualified to the final after defeating Chelsea London and Manchester United, there aren’t many people left who will doubt Man City’s supremacy. This being said we are going to bet 5 units on Manchester City to win to nil with 2.13 William Hill odd.

Everton vs West Ham United [Prediction, March 1]

February 27, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

Some teams should take a leaf out of West Ham United’s book on how to turn around an entire season after being deemed relegated. They managed to turn their luck around and registered four consecutive wins and a goalless draw against Chelsea. For this week’s fixture they travel to Everton to continue their unbeaten run for which we are going to use odds from William Hill.

Regardless of their mixed results, alternating between wins and losses, the bookmakers see Everton as the outright favorite to win this match. Their main attacking force was injured in the defeat to Liverpool and it was clear that without Lukaku the team’s form suffered a blow. For this particular match, the doctors have cleared the Belgian to play, and some of the odds point towards him as an anytime goalscorer for Everton. The team’s most recent loss against Chelsea was rather dramatic as the match itself was heading towards a well-deserved draw, until John Terry converted the penalty awarded to the Blues in the final minutes of the match.

Meanwhile, West Ham enjoys a perfect record of matches in February despite being eliminated from all Cup games. The disaster which followed the team in the Capital One Cup semi-finals was easy to predict, yet The Citizens didn’t even allow West Ham a goal of honor and trashed them with an astounding 9-0 score. Kevin Nolan, Cole and Matt Jarvis were West Ham’s most recent goalscorers which puts them up front for the anytime goalscorer betting markets.

William Hill sees a potential Everton win at 1.46, a draw at 4.12, and a potential West Ham win at 7.02. Everton to win to nil stands at 2.20, while the same courtesy for West Ham is at 12.00; we are going to place 7 units on the total match goals number to be odd at 2.00.

Athletic Club vs Granada [Prediction, February 28]

February 27, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

La Liga starts this week with a match between the fourth-placed Athletic Club and the 13th-placed Granada, which also sports a negative goal average. Judging by their head to head record you may not anticipate a lot of goals, but a decent fight put up by the underdog. We decided to use the odds from Titan Bet for this prediction.

Everyone knows Bilbao is not going to make a bid for the third place on the table, but they will do their best to secure the fourth spot that will send them towards a potential Champions League bid. After two draws and a surprise loss to Espanyol Barcelona, Bilbao got their act together and won against Real Betis with a clean sheet. Muniain put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute after Bilbao was awarded a penalty for a dive inside the box by a Betis player. The hosts were left with nine men on the pitch and yet Bilbao’s second goal came in the 81 minute when Fernandez scored with a header.

Granada sports five defeats in six matches, the most recent one against Valencia, in a match where they not only had the upper hand, but also scored first only to see themselves being equalized in the 64th minute. During the extra time Valencia scored their second goal after Roberto cleared a threat. What they are missing and need to work on are the aerial duels, as well as finishing passes, because Elche is just one point behind Granada and might want a shot at a higher La Liga table place.

Titan Bet has a potential Bilbao win at 1.44, and a draw goes for 4.33, while the probability of a Bilbao clean sheet is at 2.00. We are going to bet 6 units on the second half to be the one with the majority of goals at 2.05 with odds from the same bookie.

Zenit vs Borussia Dortmund [Champions League Recap, February 25th]

February 26, 2014 0 Betting, News, Soccer

We placed a bet with bet365 on Robert Lewandowski as an anytime goalscorer in Borussia Dortmund’s match against Zenit, and we won the bet as Lewandowski was cleared from the flu just mere moments before the match, even though he needed to be careful as he had a yellow card to worry about.

The visitors imposed Zenit a highly pressing game and in the 4th minute, Marco Reus made his way into Zenit’s box, passed it to Mkhitaryan who scored from a very close range. A minute after Dortmund’s goal, Zenit proves true to the saying that a team is most vulnerable after they concede a goal. Immediately after the restart, Grosskreutz lays the ball perfectly for Reus who makes it 0-2.

The second half saw a Zenit with a different set of mind and they even managed to score in the 57th minute through Shatov, and the goal came over Dortmund’s defense, exposing the weaknesses. Lewandowski created and converted the chance he got into a goal on the 61 minute when he picked up the ball from outside the box, combined it with Piszczek, and after that scored himself. The Polish striker has this uncanny ability to develop chances of goals from thin air and this is a trait that makes him special.

On the 69th minute Zenit was awarded a penalty after Piszczek fouled Fayzulin inside the box, and Hulk converted from the white spot after his team managed to miss three penalties in a row this season, yet they scored the most important one. The Russians didn’t learn from their mistakes, and allowed Lewandowski to complete his brace on the 71 minute when Reus assisted the Pole for a goal into the tight corner of Zenit’s post.

Dortmund’s made their intentions clear, despite their Bundesliga form, and Lewandowski went to exchange a few words with Tymoshchuk as the two know each other pretty well from Tymo’s days at Bayern.

Result: +8,75 units, bet won

Zenit vs Borussia Dortmund [Champions League Prediction, February 25th]

February 21, 2014 0 Betting, News, Predictions

Borussia Dortmund returns to Champions League action by traveling to Russia this Tuesday to measure forces with Zenit, and last year’s finalist is the overall favorite to return home with the three points. Bet365 gives Dortmund odds of 1.72 to win, while an eventual upset by Zenit is priced up at 4.50.

Luciano Spaletti is confident that his side’s loss to Austria Wien was just an accident and will not hinder their performance in front of the Germans. Zenit finished second in Group G, only trailing behind Atletico Madrid. In their national Championship the team is at level of points with Lokomotiv Moskow, and don’t look too keen on leaving the first spot. Their main goalscorer in all European competitions is Aleksandr Kerzhakov with 28 goals, and the person to know the visitors best would be Bayern Munich’s ex-player Anatolyi Tymoshchuk, who will also register his 50th Champions League appearance.

When Dortmund won against Werder Bremen, their joy was overshadowed by Sven Bender and Marco Reus’ injuries that kept on adding to the already decimated team. Recently, Jurgen Klopp gave great news to the fans by stating that Reus is poised to return for the first leg against Zenit, yet still refuses to see his team as overall favorites to win. The visitors have to be extra careful as Robert Lewandowski and Sven Bender are both one card away from suspension, which could turn out to be detrimental to their return leg against the Russians.

Nobody said the victory will be handed to Borussia Dortmund on a silver platter; they will have to work for it and prove why statistically they are the better team out of the two. The Germans also have a good record of clean sheets which with bet365 is accounted for at 3.25. We are going to bet 7 units on Robert Lewandowski as an anytime goalscorer with 2.25 odds.
