Catania – Siena [Prediction]

April 29, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Catania and Siena will meet this Sunday on Stadio Angelo Massimino to try and save one of them from relegation and the other one to redeem themselves in front of fans after the latest defeat. Betfair provides the odds for this game this time.

The visitors are still crushed after the 4-0 defeat against AS Roma, where one of Roma’s players, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo singlehandedly brought the victory to Rome when he scored a hat trick to erase that pitiful 1-1 draw to the already relegated Pescara. After this result Siena is already in the relegation zone, and their further games don’t offer many chances to stay in Serie A next season, but then again – football miracles happened before when nobody believed in them.

Catania also comes after a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan, where the Rossonerri had to come back twice from a goal to beat the 9th placed team in a game where you couldn’t really tell who was supposed to be the winner seeing as Catania was in great shape, and took the lead on the table after their first real chance to score. AC Milan still managed to win in the end, but Catania left a good impression on both their fans and their opponents including through the performance of Alberto Frison who had his first performance ever for Catania as a result of the suspension of Mariano Andujar.

The latest game between these two teams ended up with Catania’s victory, despite the fact that back then Catania had had a pretty bad Serie A run. They managed to create several good scoring chances, and even came back from a goal to win in the end those much desired three points. Seeing as Catania won the majority of their points at home, it will be quite entertaining to see if the visitors prove to be a challenge and manage to snatch a point in their quest to avoid Serie B.

The game is scheduled for 14:00, GMT+1, and I’m hoping Catania manages to keep up the pace set during the game with Milan and win, that’s why I’m betting 6 units at 2.24 odd from Betfair.

Sevilla – Atletico Madrid [Recap]

April 26, 2013 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Last weekend, a solitary strike from Radamel Falcao scored for Atletico Madrid was enough to win the match against Sevilla and for me to win the bet I placed on Atletico Madrid with odds from William Hill.

In the match played against Sevilla, Los Colchoneros were frustrated most of the time by the outfit of Unai Emery; the vital goal of the match came in the 12th minute with the help of Radamel Falcao. Raul Garcia also tried his chances with a volley sent from the edge of the penalty area, and that was the point when the Colombian striker stuck out a leg and turned the ball into the net past Antonio Beto.

It appeared like the visitors were comfortably to see out the victory, but in the dying minutes they were given a late scare. In injury time, Ivan Rakitic crashed a free kick off the crossbar, enabling Atletico to maintain the pressure on Jose Mourinho’s players in second place in the league.

With Diego Simeone’s men running out a neat 1-0 victory over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Atletico Madrid remain just three points behind rivals Real Madrid in La Liga.

Schalke 04 – Hamburger SV [Prediction]

April 24, 2013 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

After the dramatic defeat suffered last year on the 27th of November at Imtech Arena in front of Hamburger, Schalke 04 are eager to take revenge this Sunday on the 28th of April. Since Schalke’s game has improved a lot since their last confrontation with Hamburger, I think it would be reasonable to place a bet on Schalke’s win, and I am going to do this using the odds provided by Betfair, which are the highest I could find for this particular match.

As I have already mentioned, in the last head-to-head confrontation between these two teams, Schalke weren’t very lucky. Maybe because of too much self-confidence, by the end of that match they were behind with a 2-0 score. It was in the 80th minute when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar eventually scored the goal of honor for Schalke, but the 2-goal difference was reestablished 12 minutes later, when Milan Badelj added the decisive goal for Hamburger.

In addition, Schalke also believe that the future results of the team depend on the club’s ability to conserve their key players. As a consequence, Schalke intends to extend Jermaine Jones’s contract; but until then, Schalke need to remain focused with every single match. For this weekend, I am going to choose Schalke as undeniable favorite of this match, so I will bet 6 units on their victory at 1.66, with odds from Betfair.

Fiorentina – Torino [Recap]

April 24, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

In the match with Fiorentina that took place this Sunday, Torino admirably managed to came back from a three goals difference and level the score, but a late winner from Romulo has eventually dispelled all their hopes. Due to the highly disputed 4-3 Fiorentina’s victory against Torino, I won the bet I placed on Fiorentina with odds from Betfair.

After the solid 2-0 win achieved last week over Atalanta, Vincenzo Montella made four changes to his Fiorentina side by switching the team’s formation from 3-4-2-1 to 4-3-3. Nenad Tomovic, Stefan Savic, Marcelo Larrondo and Adem Ljajic replaced Facundo Roncaglia, Manuel Pasqual, Mohamed Sissoko and Mounir El Hamdaoui.

On the other hand, after the disappointing defeat suffered against Roma, Giampiero Ventura made only two changes with Danilo D’Ambrosio coming in for Salvatore Masiello at left-back, and Gonzalo Barreto replacing captain Rolando Bianchi up front.

Even if Fiorentina were expected to be leading the match from the start, it was Torino who had the first clear chance to score, when Riccardo Meggiorini worked hard to down the left side by pulling back for the late-arriving Alessio Cerci. Unfortunately, Stefan Savic intervened and deflected his side-footed effort.

This match was undoubtedly much disputed and also dramatic. The Viola were the ones who dominated the match after all, in spite of Torino’s permanent and appreciable efforts to remain in the game.

Fiorentina – Torino [Prediction]

April 19, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

If we take a closer look at Fiorentina’s latest performances, we’ll see that this football team might have had the fastest evolution of all Italian teams in the Serie A table. That is why I will invest some cash on their victory in the match with Torino that will take place on the 21st of April, and I’ll use the odds provided by Betfair

Fiorentina come after a terrific 2-0 win managed over Atalanta last Saturday. With this victory, they moved just three points behind the last Champions League berth. This way, they maintain their hopes of reaching the top three.

In the match with Atalanta, substitute Adem Ljajic won a penalty midway through the second half. It was the moment when his strike ricocheted off Guglielmo Stendardo‘s hand and allowed David Pizarro to pick his spot from 12 yards out. Later on, an inch-perfect through ball of Juan Cuadrado was latched onto by Marcelo Larrondo who came off the bench and fired a superb, left-footed goal past Andrea Consgili.

On the other hand, their opponents from this Sunday, Torino, were unable to impose themselves in front of 6th positioned AS Roma, who returned in the game with a flagging shout of Champions League qualification due to a 2-1 win against Torino.

This being said, I will bet 8 units on Fiorentina’s victory at 1.48, using the odds provided by Betfair.
