Catania – Siena [Prediction]

April 29, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Catania and Siena will meet this Sunday on Stadio Angelo Massimino to try and save one of them from relegation and the other one to redeem themselves in front of fans after the latest defeat. Betfair provides the odds for this game this time.

The visitors are still crushed after the 4-0 defeat against AS Roma, where one of Roma’s players, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo singlehandedly brought the victory to Rome when he scored a hat trick to erase that pitiful 1-1 draw to the already relegated Pescara. After this result Siena is already in the relegation zone, and their further games don’t offer many chances to stay in Serie A next season, but then again – football miracles happened before when nobody believed in them.

Catania also comes after a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan, where the Rossonerri had to come back twice from a goal to beat the 9th placed team in a game where you couldn’t really tell who was supposed to be the winner seeing as Catania was in great shape, and took the lead on the table after their first real chance to score. AC Milan still managed to win in the end, but Catania left a good impression on both their fans and their opponents including through the performance of Alberto Frison who had his first performance ever for Catania as a result of the suspension of Mariano Andujar.

The latest game between these two teams ended up with Catania’s victory, despite the fact that back then Catania had had a pretty bad Serie A run. They managed to create several good scoring chances, and even came back from a goal to win in the end those much desired three points. Seeing as Catania won the majority of their points at home, it will be quite entertaining to see if the visitors prove to be a challenge and manage to snatch a point in their quest to avoid Serie B.

The game is scheduled for 14:00, GMT+1, and I’m hoping Catania manages to keep up the pace set during the game with Milan and win, that’s why I’m betting 6 units at 2.24 odd from Betfair.

Sevilla – Atletico Madrid [Recap]

April 26, 2013 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Last weekend, a solitary strike from Radamel Falcao scored for Atletico Madrid was enough to win the match against Sevilla and for me to win the bet I placed on Atletico Madrid with odds from William Hill.

In the match played against Sevilla, Los Colchoneros were frustrated most of the time by the outfit of Unai Emery; the vital goal of the match came in the 12th minute with the help of Radamel Falcao. Raul Garcia also tried his chances with a volley sent from the edge of the penalty area, and that was the point when the Colombian striker stuck out a leg and turned the ball into the net past Antonio Beto.

It appeared like the visitors were comfortably to see out the victory, but in the dying minutes they were given a late scare. In injury time, Ivan Rakitic crashed a free kick off the crossbar, enabling Atletico to maintain the pressure on Jose Mourinho’s players in second place in the league.

With Diego Simeone’s men running out a neat 1-0 victory over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Atletico Madrid remain just three points behind rivals Real Madrid in La Liga.

Schalke 04 – Hamburger SV [Prediction]

April 24, 2013 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

After the dramatic defeat suffered last year on the 27th of November at Imtech Arena in front of Hamburger, Schalke 04 are eager to take revenge this Sunday on the 28th of April. Since Schalke’s game has improved a lot since their last confrontation with Hamburger, I think it would be reasonable to place a bet on Schalke’s win, and I am going to do this using the odds provided by Betfair, which are the highest I could find for this particular match.

As I have already mentioned, in the last head-to-head confrontation between these two teams, Schalke weren’t very lucky. Maybe because of too much self-confidence, by the end of that match they were behind with a 2-0 score. It was in the 80th minute when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar eventually scored the goal of honor for Schalke, but the 2-goal difference was reestablished 12 minutes later, when Milan Badelj added the decisive goal for Hamburger.

In addition, Schalke also believe that the future results of the team depend on the club’s ability to conserve their key players. As a consequence, Schalke intends to extend Jermaine Jones’s contract; but until then, Schalke need to remain focused with every single match. For this weekend, I am going to choose Schalke as undeniable favorite of this match, so I will bet 6 units on their victory at 1.66, with odds from Betfair.

Fiorentina – Torino [Recap]

April 24, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

In the match with Fiorentina that took place this Sunday, Torino admirably managed to came back from a three goals difference and level the score, but a late winner from Romulo has eventually dispelled all their hopes. Due to the highly disputed 4-3 Fiorentina’s victory against Torino, I won the bet I placed on Fiorentina with odds from Betfair.

After the solid 2-0 win achieved last week over Atalanta, Vincenzo Montella made four changes to his Fiorentina side by switching the team’s formation from 3-4-2-1 to 4-3-3. Nenad Tomovic, Stefan Savic, Marcelo Larrondo and Adem Ljajic replaced Facundo Roncaglia, Manuel Pasqual, Mohamed Sissoko and Mounir El Hamdaoui.

On the other hand, after the disappointing defeat suffered against Roma, Giampiero Ventura made only two changes with Danilo D’Ambrosio coming in for Salvatore Masiello at left-back, and Gonzalo Barreto replacing captain Rolando Bianchi up front.

Even if Fiorentina were expected to be leading the match from the start, it was Torino who had the first clear chance to score, when Riccardo Meggiorini worked hard to down the left side by pulling back for the late-arriving Alessio Cerci. Unfortunately, Stefan Savic intervened and deflected his side-footed effort.

This match was undoubtedly much disputed and also dramatic. The Viola were the ones who dominated the match after all, in spite of Torino’s permanent and appreciable efforts to remain in the game.

Fiorentina – Torino [Prediction]

April 19, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

If we take a closer look at Fiorentina’s latest performances, we’ll see that this football team might have had the fastest evolution of all Italian teams in the Serie A table. That is why I will invest some cash on their victory in the match with Torino that will take place on the 21st of April, and I’ll use the odds provided by Betfair

Fiorentina come after a terrific 2-0 win managed over Atalanta last Saturday. With this victory, they moved just three points behind the last Champions League berth. This way, they maintain their hopes of reaching the top three.

In the match with Atalanta, substitute Adem Ljajic won a penalty midway through the second half. It was the moment when his strike ricocheted off Guglielmo Stendardo‘s hand and allowed David Pizarro to pick his spot from 12 yards out. Later on, an inch-perfect through ball of Juan Cuadrado was latched onto by Marcelo Larrondo who came off the bench and fired a superb, left-footed goal past Andrea Consgili.

On the other hand, their opponents from this Sunday, Torino, were unable to impose themselves in front of 6th positioned AS Roma, who returned in the game with a flagging shout of Champions League qualification due to a 2-1 win against Torino.

This being said, I will bet 8 units on Fiorentina’s victory at 1.48, using the odds provided by Betfair.

Sevilla – Atletico Madrid [Prediction]

April 16, 2013 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

This Sunday, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium will open its gates to a match that many see as a chance of recoup of last month’s Copa del Rey game that saw Sevilla lose to Atletico on aggregate. William Hill offers the best odds for the game, and you can choose your own winner.

Both teams have important absentees, Sevilla with Campana and Trochowski out with injuries and Atletico with Tiago and Turan with a sprained ankle and a hamstring respectively.  Other than that, both teams come into the game with completely different moods, Sevilla comes after a 3-3 draw against Betis. Sevilla was already ahead in the 7th minute, then managed to double their efforts, but saw themselves being equalized in the second period. Sevilla finished the game with 10 people on the field, yet managed to keep up the result and not concede any goals.

Atletico Madrid comes from a thrilling 5-0 win over Granada, who is one point away from being relegated. Koke ran the show for Atletico, having scored a hat trick for his team, and helping them keep the 11 points advantage of the third place. With just several rounds to go, Atletico seem to have the last direct Champions League spot covered, but this shouldn’t be a reason to slack and take everything for granted.

Their last game was in Copa del Rey, where Atletico advanced to the final after a 2-2 draw that saw the Madrid-based team advance to the finals on aggregate. Sevilla finished that game with only 9 people on the field, and managed to come back and score, proving once again that a match doesn’t end until the last whistle. Sevilla continued pushing, but didn’t manage to find that last breath of air that would have allowed them to score once more and advance to final. This week’s game should be rather interesting considering how the last one finished.

The game is scheduled to begin at 20:00, GMT+1, and I’m going to bet 6 units on Atletico’s win with 3.00, odds from William Hill.

Stoke City – Manchester United [Recap]

April 16, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Robin van Persie managed to secure his first Manchester United trophy, after finishing his 12-hour goal drought to inch Sir Alex Ferguson closer towards a 20th domestic title. The 2-0 victory of Manchester over Stoke City from this Sunday brought me some extra cash, since I won the bet I have placed on Manchester’s victory at William Hill

After scoring from the penalty spot, Van Persie raced throughout half the length of the pitch to give Alex Ferguson a bear-hug as the dark hopes of a late season collapse from United were brutally extinguished at the Britannia Stadium. Ferguson has answered recent questions about the goalless run of Van Persie with an obvious air of irritation, but their moment of spontaneous joy has clearly revealed it had been more of a concern.

“For all strikers, and I was one myself, you go through spells when you are not scoring and thinking you will never get a goal. Then when you are scoring you never think you are going to miss[…]Our responsibility at Manchester United is to go out and win every game. I don’t think supporters at our club think any different. This was the start. We have six games left, we want to go and win the next one.”, declared Ferguson after the match with Stoke City.

It seems that Manchester United are determined to win the title, and dominate over all teams in the English Premier League.

Lille – Marseille [Recap]

April 16, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

This Sunday Marseille travelled to Lille, in what was an attempt to diminish the gap between them and the soon-to-be champions PSG. On paper Marseille seemed the clear favorites, but in the field it was a complete different story; and pairing everything with Lyon’s victory over Toulouse, it just proves to be an interesting finish of Ligue 1, seeing as the distance between Lyon and Marseille is just 2 points.

The game itself ended in a goalless draw, and not for lack of opportunities on both parts, it was just that both goalkeepers had an amazing day. Lille was in a high form and Salomon Kalou should have scored in the 22 minute thanks to a header, but Mandanda had great instincts and managed to catch the ball. Next to tease Marseille’s defense was Sidibe on two occasions, but again the goalkeeper stopped everything that moved. I guess, in perspective you could say that Marseille was lucky with this result, seeing as the team, as a whole, didn’t count too much on the field, and if they didn’t end up losing, it was thanks to Mandanda.

Lille had 63 percent of ball possession throughout the game, and had 16 shots for the goal, but Marseille’s goalkeeper was the rock that kept his team safe. Steeve Elana had to work for Lille too, as Gignac and Lucas Mendes tried their luck in the second half only to be stopped in due time. The reactions after the game were unanimous; everyone was praising Mandanda, even Rudi Garcia, who was sad about missing out on three points, saying that: “The result doesn’t make sense, “I am disappointed for the players, but what can I say? We just came up against a fantastic goalkeeper, a French international goalkeeper who allowed Marseille to come away with a point.” His counterpart, Elie Baup was also full of praises for his goalkeeper, adding: “We picked up a point and we didn’t concede a goal. We’re continuing our work to try and stay in the top three,” said Baup.”(Mandanda) had an extraordinary match and that confirmed that he’s the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1.”

Lille is in great shape and just one point short of an European place, which after this game, they can really push for. I would have never thought Marseille would have such a performance in this game and as a result I lost 7 units placed on an eventual Marseille win, the odds were taken from bet365.

Stoke City – Manchester United (Prediction)

April 12, 2013 0 Soccer

One of the most important players from Manchester United, Patrice Evra affirmed that the trip of his team to Britannia from Sunday had become a must-win game for the Premier League leaders. Since I have no doubt about their victory over Stoke City in the match scheduled for 14.04, so I will place a bet on Manchester United using the odds provided by William Hill, which are also the biggest for this match.

manchesterIn spite of their 12-point advantage over Roberto Mancini’s team at the top of the table, United still need 10 points in the remaining seven games, in order to confirm the title.

Regarding Manchester’s future evolution, Evra admitted that banishing any doubt over Manchester’s title prospects has become a vital task: “We are still 12 points clear and now we have to win the next game […] Since I’ve been here I’ve never lost two league games in a row and that’s why I hope we’ll keep going against Stoke City and win. We just have to win the next game.“, were the words of Evra.
stoke
United could be boosted by Paul Scholes’s availability for the matches against Stoke and West Ham following the return of the 38-year-old midfielder to training, after a long-term knee problem. Ferguson is also lucky to have defenders such as Chris Smalling, Jonny Evan and Nemanja Vidic available for the trip to Stoke City.

At this point, I think that statistics are useless. The motivation of winning the English Premier League title should be more than enough for Manchester United to win the match from Sunday, against their rivals, Stoke City. So I am going to place a 10 units bet on Manchester United’s victory at 1.6. The odds I used were provided by William Hill.

Lille – Marseille [Prediction]

April 10, 2013 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Bet365 offers the best odds for a Ligue 1 game poised to take place this Sunday at Grand Stade Lille Métropole. Lille will meet a Marseille that is almost sure of its Champions League place after their last week’s victory against Bordeaux with 1-0. Gignac scored Marseille’s only goal just before half time and widened the gap between his team and Saint-Etienne by four points.

Lille comes from a thrilling 5-0 win against Lorient, and this result paired up with Lyon’s loss against Reims, made the gap between the two teams just 1 point short. Kalou opened the score after just several minutes from the start and Dmitri Payet made it 2-0 after 3 minutes. With this score in hand Lille just couldn’t be stopped, and the end result on the table showed a 5-0 that would give any team a boost of moral.

Marseille will go into the game without Valbuena, sidelined because of an injury, while Lille will have to work around missing five players: Digne with a red card, and Tulio de Melo, Sidibe, Mavuba and Ryan Mendes out with sprained ankles and knee injuries.

Their last head to head game ended with Marseille’s win, a win that helped them climb up to the second place on Ligue’s one table and stay there just behind PSG. Valbuena shot an amazing cross and Jordan Ayew fired the pass into the net.

The game is set to take place in Lille on Sunday at 20:00, GMT+1, and I’m going to bet on Marseille’s win with 6 units at 4.00 odd from bet365.
