Man City 1 – 0 Stoke [Recap]

May 17, 2011 0 Betting, Soccer

The FA Cup Final this year was not as entertaining as you would expect an FA Cup Final to be. Of course, the two teams are not really “big names” in the Premier League. In fact, it’s the first time that Stoke City made it into the final. As expected, both teams played defensively, with just one score deciding the winner.

Manchester City were clearly the more confident side, taking control early in the game. Stoke, were all over the place for the first half an hour, not really sure whether they should attack or defend. There were some occasions, but nothing important for them. Man City had some good opportunities, but their defensive style didn’t go well with their now-atacking position.

The second half started with a more determined Stoke team. However, Nigel de Jong was there at midfield to stop most of their actions. On the other side, Man City had good opportunities through Silva (missing the target a few times from nearby) and Balotelli. Finally, the victory goal arrived in the 75th minute from a general confusion inside Stoke’s penalty area which saw the ball going at Yaya Toure. The Cameroon national rocketed a powerful volley straight into the back net, with no chance whatsoever for Stoke’s keeper.

So ends Man City’s 36-year old thirst for trophies, and we’ll see them again in Champions League next season. If I’m not mistaken, it’s their first appearance there. Oh well, my two sports bets paid off this time. I bet on a low-scoring game, with 3 units on u2.5 which brought me an extra 2 units. Then I favoured Man City to win for 4 units, and that brought me 3.64 units. So 5.64 units in total. A good day, I must say 😀 Stay with the winner folks!

Napoli 1 – 1 Inter Milan [Recap]

May 17, 2011 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

The Serie A game was not THAT entertaining to watch, but the result is very good for my sports bets. From my two football bets on this game, I earned 2.85 units! All because both teams, in the end, wanted to draw. What did you expect, they’re on the second and third places, and none could go higher.

The first half was nice to watch. Both goals were scored then. The first one, by Eto’o came pretty quickly, just 15 minutes after the game started on San Paolo stadium. After that, Napoli continuosly attacked Inter’s goal, but not much came out of it. In fact, Eto’o had a few other good opportunities to increase Inter’s advantage. Only in the added time of the first half did they manage to score through Juan Camilo Zúñiga.

Nothing happened in the second half. Both teams were content with the draw, so they just passed the ball around at midfield, waiting for time to pass by. I don’t consider that a sportive attitute, but there you have it. On the other hand, it did help both my soccer bets. If you remember from this post, I bet on a draw for 2 units, which brought me 1.9 units. Then I predicted that the game wouldn’t have more than 2 goals, considering both teams’ record when playing together on San Paolo. It was true, and that brought me an  extra 0.95 units. At least this makes up for the failed Chelsea – Newcastle match 🙂

Chelsea – Newcastle [Recap]

May 17, 2011 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

I really blew it with this game. None of my football predictions came true. Although Chelsea dominated the entire game, Newcastle took advantage of the few occasions they had on the counter-attack and managed to level the score every time. And Chelsea’s domination was clear from the start: in the second minute of play, Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic found the net after volleying Frank Lampard’s corner.

Newcastle’s equalizer goal came 8 minutes afterwards, from a free kick by Ryan Taylor. His shot was deflected by Jonas Gutierrez, who eventually got credit for the goal. The rest of the first half was almost completely dominated by Chelsea, with Newcastle constantly defending.

The following two goals came very late in the game. Chelsea’s Alex’s header in the 83rd minute seemed like the late victory goal, but in added time Newcastle’s Steven Taylor equalized only seconds before the final whistle. A very dramatic end for a seemingly unimportant game.

Luckily, I did not bet that much on this game: the only sports bet I made here was for Fernando Torres to score twice. I lost one unit there. Unfortunately, Chelsea’s newly-acquired star was somewhat a disappointment.

Chelsea – Newcastle [Prediction]

May 15, 2011 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Prediction: Fernando Torres to score twice

Stake: 3/1

Match date: May 15

Competition: Premier League

Stadium: Stamford Bridge

In this final home game for Chelsea this season, the team from Stamford Bridge have to secure their second place in the Premier League, after losing the change to finish first last match, when they lost 2-1 against Manchester United. It’s a pity they lost that game, since before that game Chelsea got 25 points out of their last 9 games and got back on track after a bad start of the season. And get this: it coincided with the record signing of Fernando Torres from Liverpool!

In the game against Manchester United, Mancini decided not to use Torres, and perhaps he regrets it now. Maybe that’s why he announced Torres will be playing tonight. Probably in place of Anelka. Mancini will have to do without Jose Bosingwa and Bertrand, bouth out with injuries. On the other side, Newcastle will probably miss Smith, doubtful ahead of the game.

And now for the football prediction. With Newcastle lacking a proper goal scorer after selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool, and with Chelsea’s Fernando Torres desperate to improve his goal record, I predict a clear victory for Chelsea. That’s one football tip you can take away from this post. A second soccer tip is that Fernando Torres will score. I bet on him scoring twice for just one unit, but I am confindent he will do it at least once. Oh, and if you want another sports betting tip, go for an over 2.5 goals!

Napoli – Inter Milan [Prediction]

May 15, 2011 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Prediction: Scoreless draw

Stake: 19/20 and 19/20

Match date: May 15

Competition: Serie A

Stadium: San Paolo, Napoli

This last game of Serie A sees two top-teams fight for glory (and just glory since there’s not much left to change in the table) tonight. The 2nd team in Serie A and the former champions of Italy, Inter Milan will travel to Napoli tonight to meet SSC Napoli, the 3rd team in the Italian championship. A prediction here is fairly easy (I would say), considering both teams’ record on San Paolo venue. But I’ll discuss soccer tips a bit later.

Ahead of tonight’s game there have been announced some big-name absentees from both sides. For Napoli Edinson Cavani and Giuseppe Mascara are not playing because both are banned. For Inter, Dutchman Wesley Sneijder is out with an injury for sure, while Dejan Stankovic is doubtful.

Looking at both teams’ form, Inter is doing much better, having won their last 3 games. Napoli lost 3 out of their last 4 games, including a shameful defeat last time against Lecce. The problem with Inter is that they’re reluctant to score away, especially when playing Napoli. They haven’t scored at all in Naples during Inter’s last four encounters with SSC Napoli. And now that two important forwards are out of their squad, I don’t see the Neroazzurri do much better than before.

I predict a scoreless draw and I’m willing to stake 2 units for a draw on Bwin at 19/20 odds. A bet on either team is much more attractive (both have the same odds at 5/2), but it’s unlikely that this game will have a winner. Also, I’m going for an Under 2.5 goals bet for 1 unit at 19/20 odds. LET THE GAME BEGIN!!

Man City – Stoke [Prediction]

May 14, 2011 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Prediction: Man City to win, under 2.5 goals

Stake: 10/11 and 4/6

Match date: May 14

Competition: FA Cup Final

Stadium: Wembley, London

The long-expected FA Cup Final is finally here and my soccer prediction comes with it. It will be a strange FA Cup Final, since we don’t get to see any of the big names who traditionally fight for this trophy. In fact the last big name, Manchester United, were kicked out in the semis by their arch-rivals Manchester City at one goal difference.

Neither of these two teams have won anything in ages. Man City’s most recent trophy was the League cup in 1976, whereas for Stoke City, their last and only trophy was in 1972. So chances are, and as a sports bettor I trust the statistics, both teams will take this final very seriously. Manchester City already played it 8 times (4 wins, 4 losses), but it’s the first time that Stoke is playing it. Tensions will be high in the crowds.

Both teams are known for their defensive styles. And though Stoke has had a very good run (5-0 against Bolton and 3-1 against Arsenal), they usually rather defend and go for counter-attacks when they have the chance. Manchester City on the other hand has some fabulous talent in front (Balotelli, Tevez, Dzeko being their stars), but in their past 6 games they only once scored 2 goals.

I’m going for an under 2.5 goals at 4/6 stakes on bet365 for 3 units. And I’m also favoring Man City to win, although the stake is kind of low at 10/11 on bet365. That’s why I’m putting 4 units on this one.

Weekend ahead!

Wow, I’m glad to be finally posting again here. I actually started “working” on my blog this week, trying to get some link exchanges. I met lots of passionate sports bloggers and closed some neat deals 😀

And now the weekend is approaching. And with it, the juicy soccer games of the European leagues. I’m going to keep my eyes on the following:

Manchester City vs. Stoke (16.00 CET) – FA Cup final

Chelsea vs. Newcastle (14.30 CET) – English Premier League

Napoli vs. Inter Milan (21.45 CET) – Italian Serie A

I’m looking forward to placing some soccer bets and winning some units. I haven’t yet had time to study the teams very well, so I can’t make any predictions now. Tomorrow though I will look into that and post on the blog as well.

Hope you all have a great weekend! By the way, if you have any “inside info” on these matches, DO let me know!
