Robin van Persie managed to secure his first Manchester United trophy, after finishing his 12-hour goal drought to inch Sir Alex Ferguson closer towards a 20th domestic title. The 2-0 victory of Manchester over Stoke City from this Sunday brought me some extra cash, since I won the bet I have placed on Manchester’s victory at William Hill.
After scoring from the penalty spot, Van Persie raced throughout half the length of the pitch to give Alex Ferguson a bear-hug as the dark hopes of a late season collapse from United were brutally extinguished at the Britannia Stadium. Ferguson has answered recent questions about the goalless run of Van Persie with an obvious air of irritation, but their moment of spontaneous joy has clearly revealed it had been more of a concern.
“For all strikers, and I was one myself, you go through spells when you are not scoring and thinking you will never get a goal. Then when you are scoring you never think you are going to miss[…]Our responsibility at Manchester United is to go out and win every game. I don’t think supporters at our club think any different. This was the start. We have six games left, we want to go and win the next one.”, declared Ferguson after the match with Stoke City.
It seems that Manchester United are determined to win the title, and dominate over all teams in the English Premier League.
Result: +6 units, bet won
