Arsenal – Sunderland [Prediction]

August 16, 2012 1 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Prediction: A 2-1 victory for Arsenal
Odds: 1.41
Match date: August 18
Stadium: Emirates Stadium, London, UK

With the inspired acquisition of Spaniard Santi Cazorla, Arsenal have definitely grown stronger. Moreover,I think they are currently possessing the best core of mid fielders from the Premier League.
Judging from the other spectrum, the guys from Sunderland, managed by O’Neil are unbeaten at home. Their portfolio is pretty impressive, containing nine wins and two draws. They have been defeated just twice, by Spurs and Chelsea. They continue playing without Lee Cattermole, David Vaughan and Wes Brown, which does not favor them too much. On the other hand, there is the young Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose recent stunning performances (two goals against Blackburn) have impressed Martin O’Neill.

But what might interest you the most are the teams’ head to head confrontations. In the last 10 Premier League games, Arsenal has five wins against Sunderland, one loss and four draws. Therefore, it is not too difficult to predict the result from 18 August, especially if we take into consideration Arsenal’s strong offensive and Sunderland’s poor scoring.
Even if there might be a chance for a draw, I definitely lean towards a 2-1 Arsenal victory, so I’m going to bet 5 units at 1.41 at IBCBET.

Steaua Bucharest – Concordia Chiajna [Prediction]

July 23, 2012 0 Betting, Soccer, Sports

Prediction: Steaua Bucharest wins and O2.5

Odds: 1/3 and 4/5

Match date: July 23

Stadium: Ghencea Stadium

Is the first Round of Romanian “Liga I”, so the first match of the season for home and away team. There have been some interesting moves in the transfer window, the two teams actually changed coaches between them and Steaua took a few players from Chiajna.

Steaua is every year, or at least tries to be a title contender and they announce the same this year. They made a few good transfers and they also did very well in the pre-season friendlies. They defeated Basel 4-2, Lokomotiv Plovdiv 4-0 and in the presenting the squad festivity they trashed 3-0 Litex Lovech.

Chiajna can’t hope more than avoiding relegation this year and against Steaua they won’t be able to do much. I expect another goal festival and a clear victory for Steaua Bucharest.

Last time they played against each other (last November) the result was 2-1 for Steaua. My guess for tonight match is O2.5, and a clear victory for the home team, Steaua Bucharest. I took the odds from WilliamHill betting offer, for O2.5 the odds are 4/5 and I’ll stake 3 credits, and 3 credits on Steaua Bucharest victory, at 1/3 odds.

Fifa set to give the green light to goal-line technology: Hawk-Eye and the GoalRef systems

July 10, 2012 1 News

World football fans around the globe received great news last week when FIFA announced it had approved the use of goal-line technology for future tournaments. This means that the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be the first-ever World Cup tournament with goal-line technology. Besides that UEFA has to take a decision so the Champions League and European Championship competitions to use this wonderful technology. Also Premier League Clubs requested IFAB the permission to use this technology next season, the installation cost would be around £150,000 per stadium.

Over the last few years we could see many times teams who have been negatively affected by referees making the wrong decisions when there was the question whether the ball crossed the goal line or not. Fifa’s president Sepp Blatter is now a firm supporter of goal-line technology, having changed his mind after Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal for England against Germany in the 2010 World Cup. The clamor increased last month after Ukraine’s disallowed goal against England.

Many other sports use this instant replay technology, so now the time has come for football to use the Hawk-Eye system – developed by a British company now owned by Sony – which uses six cameras on each goal to track the ball and can send a signal to the referee’s watch within one second of an incident. The other technology that will be used is GoalRef, developed in Germany, this one uses a microchip implanted in the ball and the use of low magnetic waves around the goal to also provide a signal to the referee within one second.

Day Ten of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships [Recap]

July 6, 2012 0 Sports

Yesterday, on the 10th day of Wimbledon Championships, we had plays from Women’s Singles semi-finals, Women’s doubles quarterfinals and Men’s Doubles quarterfinals. No weather problems occurred during the day (ands we were used to have a lot of them lately), so all the games were held on schedule. So here’s a short report on yesterday’s games:

  • Women’s Singles – Semi-finals

Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska are the finalists in Women’s Singles.

Serena moved into her seventh Wimbledon final with a 6-3, 7-6(6) score and won against the world’s number two player – Victoria Azarenka. Even if Azarenka had a brilliant 2012 season so far (she won the Australian Open during an unbeaten streak which lasted until the end of March), she couldn’t handle Serena’s hungriness for more major titles.

Even if Agnieszka Radwanska is the world’s number three player, it’s hard to see her competing with Serena on grass. She defeated Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4 with a mix of consistency and accuracy, but the match against Serena will most likely prove to be very hard, as her game will seams too lightweight for Serena.

Other games results:

  • Men’s Doubles quarterfinals

D. Bracciali/J. Knowle – R. Lindstedt/H. Tecau 4-6, 2-6, 4-6

I. Dodig/M. Melo – J. Melzer/P. Petzschner 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6

S. Lipsky/R. Ram – B. Bryan/M. Bryan 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6

  • Women’s doubles quarterfinals

Hlavackova/L. Hradecka – S. Errani/R. Vinci 6-3, 6-4

N. Llagostera/M. Martinez – F. Pennetta/F. Schiavone 2-6, 7-6, 4-6

S. Williams/V. Williams – R. Kops-Jones/A. Spears  6-1, 6-1

Argentina – Costa Rica [Prediction]

July 11, 2011 1 Betting, Soccer

Prediction: Argentina wins 2-1

Odds: 1/5

Match date: July 11

Stadium: Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes

The much anticipated match is about to take place just hours from now. The Copa America tournament has been an interesting series of games so far, and thus we can be sure to watch some real action tonight.  So far the hosts of Copa America haven’t had much luck, scoring as little as 2 points from the two games they played already (two draws in a row).  This game is especially important for Argentinians, since if they fail to beat their opponent, they will have to face elimination from the tournament.

On the other hand, we have Costa Rica, who began the tournament with a loss to Colombia. This failure probably rather motivated the team than discouraged them, because in the following game against Bolivia they won 2-0.  With this score so far, Costa Rica is merely a point away from advancing to the next stage, but more importantly, dumping Argentina out of Copa America.

Messi, Argentina’s wonderchild and allegedly “the best player on the planet” turned out to be a big disappointment so far, failing to perform to expect levels in this tournament. His father, Jorge, attributes his son’s poor performance to “terrible pressure”, since Argentina’s playing high stakes here – they’re fighting for the first big trophy since 1993.

As for Argentina, their most likely starting formation will be: Sergio Romero; Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Burdisso, Gabriel Milito, Javier Zanetti; Gago, Javier Mascherano; Aguero, Lionel Messi, Di Maria; Higuain.

What about Costa Rica? Here we have a team with basically nothing to lose, as there were REALLY few people that actually thought they might even score a winning game in this tournament. They will certainly try their best in the upcoming match, but I don’t think they have much chance against Argentina.  Despite Messi’s poor performance, let’s not forget that Argentina has a really strong team. Even if their performance is poor in this game, they are most likely to win.  And that’s why I’m putting 1 unit on Argentina tonight!
