Lille – Marseille [Recap]

This Sunday Marseille travelled to Lille, in what was an attempt to diminish the gap between them and the soon-to-be champions PSG. On paper Marseille seemed the clear favorites, but in the field it was a complete different story; and pairing everything with Lyon’s victory over Toulouse, it just proves to be an interesting finish of Ligue 1, seeing as the distance between Lyon and Marseille is just 2 points.

The game itself ended in a goalless draw, and not for lack of opportunities on both parts, it was just that both goalkeepers had an amazing day. Lille was in a high form and Salomon Kalou should have scored in the 22 minute thanks to a header, but Mandanda had great instincts and managed to catch the ball. Next to tease Marseille’s defense was Sidibe on two occasions, but again the goalkeeper stopped everything that moved. I guess, in perspective you could say that Marseille was lucky with this result, seeing as the team, as a whole, didn’t count too much on the field, and if they didn’t end up losing, it was thanks to Mandanda.

Lille had 63 percent of ball possession throughout the game, and had 16 shots for the goal, but Marseille’s goalkeeper was the rock that kept his team safe. Steeve Elana had to work for Lille too, as Gignac and Lucas Mendes tried their luck in the second half only to be stopped in due time. The reactions after the game were unanimous; everyone was praising Mandanda, even Rudi Garcia, who was sad about missing out on three points, saying that: “The result doesn’t make sense, “I am disappointed for the players, but what can I say? We just came up against a fantastic goalkeeper, a French international goalkeeper who allowed Marseille to come away with a point.” His counterpart, Elie Baup was also full of praises for his goalkeeper, adding: “We picked up a point and we didn’t concede a goal. We’re continuing our work to try and stay in the top three,” said Baup.”(Mandanda) had an extraordinary match and that confirmed that he’s the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1.”

Lille is in great shape and just one point short of an European place, which after this game, they can really push for. I would have never thought Marseille would have such a performance in this game and as a result I lost 7 units placed on an eventual Marseille win, the odds were taken from bet365.

Result: -6 units, bet lost

I got into the exciting world of sports betting years ago when information on the subject was much more difficult to find. Of course I made a lot of rookie mistakes and bad bets but over time I learned from those experiences. Nowadays, those who want to start out placing sports bets have the opposite problem. There’s so much information available that it’s so hard to sort through it all and to know who to listen to. With this blog I’ll be doing that work for you and I’ll strive to bring you nothing but the best betting tips and information the internet has to offer.

I invite you, my readers, to actively participate and share your feelings and experiences by commenting on my blog entries!
