Hamburg – Schalke 04 [Recap]

Hamburger SV came back from a disappointing loss at Fortuna Düsseldorf and managed an extremely surprising 3-1 victory against FC Schalke at the Imtech Arena. Unfortunately, this also means that I’ve lost the bet I made on the victory of FC Schalke.

The goals scored by Maximilian Beister and Artjoms Rudnevs in the second half of the match put the Red Shorts firmly in control, before Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored from the spot ten minutes before the end of the game. In the glorious finale, Milan Badelj wrapped things up for Hamburg in added time with a successful penalty kick.

The hosts almost managed to take control in the seventh minute, when Denis Aogo drilled a low shot against the post. Revealing few signs of the missing playmaker Rafael van der Vaart and the top scorer Heung-Min Son, both affected by injuries, Hamburger continued to play their best and built their way to success.

The drama reached its pitch when Adler turned an amazing Fuchs’ free kick round the post at one end. After that, Barnetta hauled Aogo down, which led to another penalty – this time for the home side. In the end, SV Hamburger achieved a truly impressive and well-deserved victory in this match.
