FC Sevilla vs Borussia M’Gladbach (Europa League, 19.02.2015)

Sevilla will begin their title defense at home, against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Bundesliga team to challenge for a direct Champions League qualification spot. Thursday’s match will be the second one between the two teams, who previously met in a friendly back in 2012 where it ended in a goalless draw. Gladbach finished top of their group ahead of Villarreal while Sevilla had to settle for the second place in a group with Feyenoord, Rijeka and Standart Liege.

Sevilla started the year in their usual manner, strong squad with strong results, only to end up faltering after the defeat against Real Madrid. To make matters even worse they also lost against Getafe, who managed to escape the relegation zone as a result of those three points. Beto, Mbia, Iago Aspas and Coke will miss the math against Gladbach, where Sevilla look forward to get back in shape, with Iborra stating that the only way to win against Gladbach is keeping one’s cool: “We needed to win, recover our positive sensations and carry on being strong at home, where points have rarely escaped us.” Carrico refused to label his team as favorites for the tie, and said that with an opponent like that every second could be important.

Borussia M’Gladbach are recent Bundesliga experts in winning matches with minimal advantage, three of their last four matches were won with the same 1-0 score, and their loss against Schalke had the same score. Lucien Favre has no injury scares or suspended players which could mean Andre Hahn and Martin Stranzl could return to the starting eleven. Yann Sommer is aware of the danger their opponent could present, but is really optimistic of coming home with a good result: “We have to stay compact and not allow them too much space, as we have done in previous games. If we do that then I’m optimistic that we can win.”

Sevilla have much more experience than Gladbach in Europa League, which can help them avoid costly mistakes. M’Bia scored 2 goals for Sevilla, Hrgota has 8 for Gladbach and Titan Bet offers the following odds in the golascorer betting markets: Bacca has 2.20, Gameiro 2.55, Deulofeu 3.25, Max Kruse and Caetano both have 3.40, Hrgota and Ritter 3.75 while Andre Hahn has 4.20 odds to score anytime during the match.

An outright Sevilla win has 1.90 odds, Borussia M’gladbach 4.33 and draw 3.50 odds with Titan Bet. Sevilla to lead after the 80th minute have 2.00 odds, Gladbach 4.00, no goal before the 30th minute with 1.87 odds. The visitors with a clean sheet have 4.00 odds, the hosts 2.40 and we’re going to bet 8 units on Borussia M’Gladbach to score over 0.5 goals in the second half with 2.10 odds from Titan Bet.
