Chelsea – Newcastle [Recap]

I really blew it with this game. None of my football predictions came true. Although Chelsea dominated the entire game, Newcastle took advantage of the few occasions they had on the counter-attack and managed to level the score every time. And Chelsea’s domination was clear from the start: in the second minute of play, Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic found the net after volleying Frank Lampard’s corner.

Newcastle’s equalizer goal came 8 minutes afterwards, from a free kick by Ryan Taylor. His shot was deflected by Jonas Gutierrez, who eventually got credit for the goal. The rest of the first half was almost completely dominated by Chelsea, with Newcastle constantly defending.

The following two goals came very late in the game. Chelsea’s Alex’s header in the 83rd minute seemed like the late victory goal, but in added time Newcastle’s Steven Taylor equalized only seconds before the final whistle. A very dramatic end for a seemingly unimportant game.

Luckily, I did not bet that much on this game: the only sports bet I made here was for Fernando Torres to score twice. I lost one unit there. Unfortunately, Chelsea’s newly-acquired star was somewhat a disappointment.
