Caroline Wozniacki – Ekaterina Makarova [Recap]

The tennis match between the former WTA leader, Caroline Wozniacki and the Russian Ekaterina Makarova was just the way I have predicted it. Therefore, I won the bet I made on Wozniacki’s victory. I wish I had also bet on the number of sets, because I was pretty sure that this match was going to last for 3 sets, considering Makarova’s evolution, but still, I had my doubts.

The score was 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 and, after 3 sets, Caroline Wozniacki managed to qualify to the finals of the Korea Open. Even if she had a hard year, with a string of poor results, she is vehemently fighting to achieve her first title of the year.

Wozniacki demonstrated an impressive start, dominating Makarova from the back of the court. On the other hand, the Russian made an impact on Caroline’s serve in the second set. Breaks were traded and Makarova proved to be stronger, as she leveled the match. Her blistering performance won her the second set.

Even if the Dane has faced a lot of problems this year due to a lack of confidence, this time she managed to keep cool and calculated, and won a tight third set, which also brought her the success. Though, she sincerely appreciated the way Makarova played, affirming that: “She was returning very well”.
